Todd Gurley’s fantasy value is at its apex in 2020, so you need to consider trading him.
In eight games for the Atlanta Falcons, running back Todd Gurley has rushed for 531 yards on 140 carries for eight touchdowns. He has also had 13 catches for 77 yards out of the Atlanta backfield. While he has been one of the better running backs in fantasy football this season, now is the time to sell high on the former Georgia standout in your fantasy league to see if you can get great value.
The Fantasy Footballers used Thursday Night Football‘s win over the NFC South rival Carolina Panthers as data that it might be time do deal Gurley to someone else in your league. If you weren’t watching the game on Thursday night, you probably thought Gurley had a decent showing in fantasy with 18 carries for 46 yards and a his league-leading eighth rushing touchdown.

However, Gurley only averaged 2.6 yards per carry in primetime, with his backup Brian Hill averaging five yards per rush on 11 carries for 55 yards. There were stretches in the game where Gurley didn’t see the field in the Falcons offense. Atlanta offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter opted to go with Hill and even at times Qadree Ollison over Gurley to run the football.
Todd Gurley’s fantasy stats are misleading in terms of on-field production
It’s not just the yards-per-carry average being concerning, but some of the boneheaded decisions Gurley has made in recent weeks. He accidentally crossed the goal line when his team instructed him not to vs. the Detroit Lions last week. Atlanta would lose in the final seconds to Matthew Stafford. With the game in the balance vs. Carolina last night, he ran the ball out of bounds.
The Falcons were fortunate to pick off Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to seal the game to get to 2-5 in the final seconds. However, Gurley is proof that fantasy stats can be misleading. So if somebody in your league wants to take on Gurley’s ability to hit pay dirt for the Dirty Birds, see what you can get for him in a trade deadline deal. It might help you win your league.
The thought is the Falcons will face tougher matchups in run defense in the coming weeks. This may be an opportunity for the Falcons to get a better sense of what they have in Hill in what is another lost season for Atlanta. There is a chance Gurley could be one-and-done in Atlanta. With an expected dip in fantasy value, now is the time for you to cash in on Gurley this fantasy season.
