Maybe this is why the Green Bay Packers should have added a receiver at the deadline.
The Green Bay Packers might be the team to beat in the NFC entering the back half of the year. Aaron Rodgers is a top-tier pocket passer, the defense is making quality plays and thanks to a weaker division, the NFC North should be theirs.
The one major concern for Green Bay looking like a legitimate contender has been depth at wide receiver. Outside of Davante Adams, the team doesn’t have an established No.2 weapon. Well, now they truly need to find a secondary option if Adams continues to suffer setbacks.
Adams would leave Sunday’s outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars with an ankle injury. According to the Packers staff, Adams is officially questionable to return. Prior to leaving in the third quarter, the 27-year-old pass-catcher led the team with seven catches for 60 yards, averaging 8.6 yards per reception.
The good news for Green Bay is Adams would return for the fourth quarter and help them capitalize big time. On a first-and-goal play, Rodgers would connect with the team’s top weapon for a six-yard score, putting the Packers back on top, 24-20.
Could this cost the Packers a Lombardi Trophy?
During the NFL trade deadline, the Packers were heavily interested in adding another receiver target to solidify their offense. Houston Texans wideout Will Fuller seemed to be the ideal candidate due to his speed and expiring contract making him affordable. Ultimately, the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement due to pricing in the future.
Adams has already miss two games this season after suffering a hamstring strain. During that span, the Packers passing offense struggled, relying more on Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams to carry the team on the ground. Jones also is an effective receiving option, hauling in 23 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Although Adams did return, some will need to play the opposite role of him. Overall, those scares might be the difference between Green Bay representing the conference at Raymond James Stadium or sitting at Lambeau watching it on the big screen.
