A terrible play by the Bengals sums up their 2020 season and provided the Cowboys with a defensive touchdown.
The Cincinnati Bengals are playing for pride and draft position Sunday afternoon against the Dallas Cowboys. Brandon Allen is under center and it appeared another tough day was ahead.
That has proven to be true in the first quarter as the Cowboys jumped out to a 10-0 lead after a fumble return touchdown by Aldon Smith. Losing the ball and having Smith go the other way was bad enough. But Bengals running back Trayveon Williams can now join the short list of those who have been unfortunate enough to have a “butt fumble.” See for yourself.
A butt fumble in 2020
There are your 2020 Bengals summed up in one play. Well, your 2020 Bengals without Joe Burrow.
Plays like this just can’t happen and it was the offense’s second fumble in their first two drives. Gifting touchdowns to the opposition is not great for a team that averages under 20 points per game.
The Cowboys entered Sunday’s game still alive in the NFC East race at 3-9. They too need some extra help scoring and Smith taking the butt fumble in for a touchdown was great for his team and for him personally after his long journey back to the NFL.
Dallas is also trying to prove they aren’t a complete disaster after being flexed out of Sunday night in Week 15. A win over the Bengals at least shows they aren’t in the basement of the NFL. They are close, but still not at the bottom yet.
