Stefon Diggs admits that he wanted out in Minnesota after the franchise lied to him.
Stefon Diggs was clearly irritated with the Minnesota Vikings as his tenure in the purple and gold was coming to a close, and he finally saw his trade wish granted when the Buffalo Bills sent four draft picks — one of which became Justin Jefferson — to Minnesota for the speedy wideout. While Diggs initially claimed that he didn’t harbor any bad feelings towards the Vikings, he spilled the beans in an interview in which he accused his former team of stretching the truth.
In a “Sunday NFL Countdown” piece, Diggs claimed that Minnesota didn’t tell him that his production was going to take a serious dip after they switched their offensive philosophy to a more run-heavy approach.
Stefon Diggs has thrived in Buffalo’s aerial circus
Diggs, who still set a career-high in receiving yards despite a run-heavy offense in 2019, has been exactly what Josh Allen and the Bills needed, as his 100 catches and 1,167 yards through 13 games have the Bills eyeing an AFC East title, while the Vikings will likely miss out on playoff football given their 6-7 record.
Diggs’ position is a bit nuanced here. On one hand, the Vikings are throwing the ball just 52 percent of the time, which is good for 29th in the league and right around their 2019 average of 51 percent. In 2018, the year in which Diggs caught 100 passes for the first time, Minnesota was fourth in the league in passing percentage at 64 percent. While he is right in saying that Kevin Stefanski and Gary Kubiak wanted to run more, the performance of Jefferson suggests that Diggs could’ve put up similar numbers in 2020.
Ultimately, the straw that broke the camel’s back was Diggs claiming that he “wasn’t in a good place mentally.” Hitting the refresh button in Buffalo has done wonders for Diggs and the Bills.
While this should’ve been a pretty clean divorce, Diggs is clearly still irked by how he was treated in Minnesota.
