All signs point toward Michael Thomas playing for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
After being sent on injured reserve for the final weeks of the 2020 NFL regular season, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is poised to make his triumphant return to the gridiron in the playoffs.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Thomas is increasingly likely to play for the Saints vs. the Chicago Bears in the NFC Wild Card game on Sunday. New Orleans is the No. 2 seed in the NFC this year, as the NFC South champions will host the third NFC Wild Card team in the .500 Bears. Getting Thomas back will go a long way towards the Saints advancing to the divisional round.
Can the New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl?
Though the are one of a dozen teams playing on Wild Card Weekend, the Saints are one of five teams who have a realistic shot of winning Super Bowl 55 down in Tampa, Florida. While the Saints are one of three teams in the NFC with a halfway decent chance of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, the biggest issue for the franchise is being able to win an illusive road playoff game.
Unless the Green Bay Packers stumble in the divisional round to the lowest advancing seed out of the NFC, the 2020 NFC Championship game will be played on the Frozen Tundra. Though the Saints do match up well with the Packers, keep in mind New Orleans has one a grand total of one playoff game outside of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in franchise history. This may be an issue.
New Orleans is an overwhelming favorite over the just happy to be here Bears. However, if Wild Card Weekend goes chalk in the NFC, the Saints would have to face a feisty Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round. They are the third team who could win the Super Bowl out of the NFC this year. New Orleans would have to beat Seattle at home and Green Bay on the road to get to Tampa.
Though it will be tough sledding , Thomas’ return may be a catalyst for a New Orleans Super Bowl
