DeAndre Hopkins had a classic response to his All-Pro Second Team selection.
AP announced its selections for the 2020 NFL All-Pro teams Friday morning, and as expected, both team rosters were littered with the game’s most elite and recognizable names.
Aaron Rodgers edged Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen for the quarterback slot on the All-Pro First Team, Aaron Donald and T.J. Watt headlined the defensive selections, and a number of talented players on both sides of the football earned recognition that’s far more important than any Pro Bowl selection.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who is widely viewed as one of the best wide receivers in the league if not the best, wasn’t satisfied with his Second Team selection. After getting beat out by Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers, Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills and Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs, Hopkins harnessed his inner Ricky Bobby with his reaction on Twitter.
The tweet has since been deleted, but nothing ever dies on the Internet:
DeAndre Hopkins is always trying to get better
This is why Cardinals fans should be so excited about the Hopkins trade and his future playing alongside quarterback Kyler Murray. The 28-year-old wide receiver had a great first year in Arizona, hauling in 115 receptions for 1,407 yards and 6 touchdowns, but despite Hopkins posting the highest catch percentage of his career, the Cards missed the playoffs, which was especially disappointing after their promising 5-2 start to the season.
The “if you ain’t first, you’re last” tagline from Talladega Nights is a humorous way to react to not making the First Team, but it’s also indicative of Hopkins’ mindset of never being satisfied. He’s still hungry after his first season in the desert, and that’s a positive sign for Cardinals fans who are ready for this team to finally be a playoff contender once again.
