Patrick Mahomes has has left the concussion protocol and has reportedly recovered from his other injury as well.
Last Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns could have been a disaster for the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes was limping around early on, only to exit with concussion-like symptoms after taking a shot on an option play.
But Chad Henne rallied the offense and the defense did enough to secure a victory. Mahomes has now cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and is reportedly recovering from the initial toe injury as well.
Mahomes back and healthy for Sunday
The toe had a chance to be an even bigger story if not for the hit that knocked Mahomes out of last week’s game. Him saying it feels much better is a great sign as the Chiefs look to return to the Super Bowl for the second straight season.
Even if Mahomes’ toe is back to full strength, Andy Reid may want to be much more careful than he was against the Browns. Calling an option with a limping quarterback was a recipe for disaster and while he was not expecting an injury, the chances increased and that did end up being the result.
The former MVP quarterback did have 308 rushing yards during the regular season, but Chiefs fans know his magic comes in the passing game. The fact Mahomes is still recovering from his injuries should mean he is only running Sunday against the Buffalo Bills if he sees a quick opening on a called pass play.
Chiefs fans saw the team rally against the Browns and now Mahomes is back. That has the team as favorites on the betting lines to continue their quest for a repeat. Now fans will be hoping Mahomes is protected more than he was last week against a Bills defense much tougher than what the Browns had last week.
