Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid involved in a multi-vehicle car accident.
The Kansas City Chiefs have revealed that assistant coach, Britt Reid, has been injured in a car accident just days before the team is set to appear in Super Bowl 55. Local Kansas City news site, KSHB, reported the crash shortly before the team issued a statement on the incident.
“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
Britt is Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s son and has worked alongside his father as the linebacker coach for the team since 2013.
The accident has reportedly injured two small children and the crash took place on Thursday night. According to KSHB, “the crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday on southbound Interstate 435 near Eastwood Trafficway, which is one exit south of the Chiefs’ practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex.”
The Chiefs coach admits he was drinking before crash
The crash reportedly happened when a Chevy Impala was stopped on an offramp due to running out of gas. Another vehicle stopped to help the stranded Impala and a car, matching the description of Reid’s hit the Impala. Reid admitted to police he was driving.
A child, 5, in the backseat of the vehicle which stopped to help suffered life-threatening injuries and a second child, 4, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to KCPD.
It’s not clear if Reid was impaired but it’s been reported by police that he had a “moderate odor of alcoholic beverages and that Reid’s eyes were bloodshot and red.” Reid admitted he police officers he had two-three drinks.
It’s unclear if Reid will appear at the Super Bowl following the incident.
