Nick Saban is losing yet another coach from his Alabama football staff, this time to the Minnesota Vikings.
Everybody and their brother is hiring former Alabama football coaches this offseason, it is crazy.
The latest former Crimson Tide staffer to leave Tuscaloosa is cornerbacks coach Karl Scott. He is replacing new LSU defensive coordinator Daronte Jones as the Minnesota Vikings‘ next defensive backs coach. Scott had been at Alabama since 2018, coaching up great defensive backs such as Trevon Diggs, Xavier McKinney and Patrick Surtain II. This is his first job in the NFL to date for him.
Coaching attrition, and not recruiting, will be what ends the Alabama dynasty
Alabama continues to dominate on the gridiron and on the recruiting trails. The Crimson Tide had the No. 1 recruiting class through National Signing Day, putting together the best class to have ever been assembled by anybody. There is no doubt Alabama has the best players in the country, but we do have to wonder if Nick Saban can keep up with his revolving door of position coaches.
Scott has a huge opportunity ahead of him, as the Vikings thought very highly of Jones before he left for LSU. He will get a chance to work with one of the best defensive minds of his generation in Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer. Minnesota is well-run, so this should be a relatively easy transition for Scott. However, Saban has lost so many coaches this offseason, we have lost count.
If Alabama slips up any in 2021, coaching attrition will be the easiest of scapegoats for their woes.
