Britt Reid, the assistant coach who was involved in a multi-car crash that injured a child before for the Super Bowl, is no longer employed by the Chiefs.
The situation with Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid remains muddled as police investigate the pre-Super Bowl car accident that put a child in the hospital.
One thing got a bit more clear on Wednesday: Reid is no longer employed by the Chiefs.
Adam Schefter of ESPN clarified the news on Wednesday evening via Twitter.
The Chiefs released a statement on Tuesday night indicating they had placed Reid on administrative leave. They left out the part about letting his contract expire in the meantime.
Britt Reid could face discipline from the NFL
Wednesday also brought an update that Reid is being investigated by the NFL for potentially violating the league’s personal conduct policy. When the investigation by law enforcement is complete, the NFL will take its own action depending on their findings.
On Thursday before the Super Bowl, Reid allegedly hit two stopped vehicles on the side of a highway in Kansas City. A five-year-old girl is still in the hospital with serious injuries from the crash while another child was injured as well.
According to reports, Reid admitted to having drinks that night and taking a prescription ADHD medication. He had previously been convicted for drunk driving in 2008.
He did not travel to Tampa as the Chiefs battled the Bucs in Super Bowl 55.
Reid, who has not been charged for his role in the crash as of yet, is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. He joined the organization as a defensive quality control coach in 2013 and worked his way up to a full-time assistant job coaching the defensive line from 2016 to 2018. He was Kansas City’s linebackers coach in 2019 and 2020.
