It should take at least a first-round pick for the Indianapolis Colts to trade for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.
Who cares what the Indianapolis Colts‘ “best offer” is for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz? If the trade package does not involve a first-round pick, there is absolutely no reason for the Eagles to take them up on that offer.
Former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski revealed the Colts have offered two second-round picks and maybe a third or fourth-round pick down the line, but that is it. Well, if that is all the Colts are willing to offer, then Wentz should not be their franchise quarterback. You do not go cheap on franchise quarterbacks because if you do, you pay for what you sign up for. So try again, Colts.
The Eagles have more leverage in a Carson Wentz trade than you think
What we all have to remember is this is the same franchise that traded a former No. 1 overall pick in Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings for a first-round pick. This move came weeks before the start of the 2016 NFL season. Wentz was a rookie and Minnesota was in dire straits for a starting-level quarterback after Teddy Bridgewater nearly lost his leg in a gruesome knee injury. Be patient.
Football is a game of injury. You will get hurt playing this game. So with that in mind, the Eagles should under no circumstances whatsoever part ways with their franchise quarterback for any package that does not include a first-round pick. They do not have to play him if they do not want to and they sure do not need to trade him away from pennies on the dollar. Take your time here.
It should take a first-round pick for the Eagles to be willing to part ways with Wentz in a trade.
