“We are shocked and deeply saddened by news of Vincent Jackson’s sudden passing,” the Chargers wrote in their official statement. “Vincent was a fan favorite not only for his Pro Bowl play on the field but for the impact he made on the community off of it. The work he has done on behalf of military families through his foundation in the years since his retirement has been an inspiration to all of us. We simply cannot believe he’s gone, and our hearts go out to his wife, Lindsey, their children, his parents, former teammates and everyone whose lives were touched by having known Vincent.”
Chargers honor one of their best receivers in franchise history
The Chargers selected Jackson in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Northern Colorado.
Jackson’s broke onto the scene in 2008, where he recorded 59 receptions for 1,098 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. He would top that the following season, where he tallied 68 catches for 1,167 yards and nine scores, notching his first of two Pro Bowls nominations as a member of the Chargers organization.
Through his seven seasons in San Diego, Jackson has 272 receptions for 4,754 yards and 37 touchdowns. Jackson ranks 10th for most receiving yards and seventh for most touchdowns in the franchise’s history.
We send our condolences to the Jackson family and to all those who have known Jackson over the years.
