As it turns out, the Indianapolis Colts were interested in trading for Derek Carr, but the Las Vegas Raiders let them know he’s staying put.
What a morning it turned out to be for the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, as the breaking news dropped that the organization had gone out and traded for former No. 2 overall pick Carson Wentz. With Philip Rivers already off enjoying retirement, Wentz will be ready to take over the offense.
As it turns out, though, Wentz wasn’t the only signal-caller Indianapolis had interest in pursuing. Per a report, the front office reached out to the Las Vegas Raiders for a potential Derek Carr trade, but the AFC West team wasn’t having any of it.

This sure is interesting and goes to show you the Colts explored several different avenues in their hunt to replace Rivers as the starting quarterback. In the end, the Colts and Eagles were able to get a deal done, with Wentz now heading to town.
The writing was on the wall for Wentz in Philadelphia. After being benched late in 2020, it looked like the Eagles were more than ready to move on from their former first-round pick.
Wentz struggled mightily throughout the year, opening the door for former head coach Doug Pederson to replace him with second-round pick Jalen Hurts as the team’s starter.
Multiple teams showed interest in trading for Wentz, including the Chicago Bears. However, the Colts swooped in and were able to make the Eagles an offer they couldn’t refuse. As for the Raiders, Jon Gruden and co. are more than set with Carr as their starter moving forward and it looks like no trade offer was going to be enough to change that mindset.
