The Philadelphia Eagles are picking No. 6 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, but reportedly won’t be selecting a quarterback to compete with Jalen Hurts.
Carson Wentz got traded in February. Now, more reported good news for Jalen Hurts.
On Monday, news surfaced that Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has demanded the team not draft a quarterback to compete with Hurts. This contrasts sharply with the belief Philadelphia could use the sixth-overall pick to select a signal-caller who would be the future face of the franchise if Hurts didn’t take a quantum leap.
Are the Eagles going to draft a quarterback in the first round?
Should this report prove out true, it would provide a gigantic argument in Philadelphia on talk radio. The Eagles could be sitting on the clock with a chance to draft BYU’s Zach Wilson, Trey Lance of North Dakota State or Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Any of the three could be a phenomenal player for the next 15 years, and while Hurts could prove the long-term answer, it’s still a huge gamble.
Additionally, in the immediate aftermath of Wentz being dealt to the Indianapolis Colts, a source with knowledge of the situation told FanSided the Eagles like Hurts, but were going to explore all options. Apparently, Lurie has shut down any talk otherwise in the building.
Should Philadelphia not take a quarterback at No. 6, the Eagles should take a look at grabbing either an elite corner such as Patrick Surtain Jr., or a franchise left tackle such as Penei Sewell from Oregon.
