Arch Manning has plenty of great quarterbacking role models to choose from. Besides his famous family members, he has taken a liking to Trevor Lawrence and Patrick Mahomes.
Sure, Arch Manning could look at his famous uncles and grandfather for quarterbacking inspiration, but the highly coveted 2023 pro-style passer really wants to emulate some of the best up-and-comers of his generation: Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes.
Lawrence will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, almost certainly to the Jacksonville Jaguars. As for Mahomes, he is the best quarterback in the NFL today. He has led the Chiefs to back-to-back AFC Championships, winning Super Bowl 54 over the San Francisco 49ers two years ago. Here is what Manning told 247Sports about what he likes in Lawrence and Mahomes’ games.
“Just how they impact their own offenses so much,” said Manning. “Mahomes can make every throw on the field with his dramatics and moves around and Trevor he just reminds me a lot of Peyton. He has total command of the offense. Those two things I like to put in my game for sure.
“That’s one thing I’m still working on. I think going into junior year even being more of a leader, I’m just really excited. I want to take full command of the huddle and be a leader on and off the field and the ultimate goal is to win and get the ball in the end zone. That’s what we’re looking for more of.”
Arch Manning emulating Trevor Lawrence and Patrick Mahomes makes sense
Look. Manning fully understands what family he comes from. Both of his uncles and his grandfather were all top-two picks in their respective NFL Drafts. While his uncles Peyton and Eli combined to win four Super Bowls, his grandfather Archie is the greatest player in Ole Miss football history, as well as the first national star in the history of the New Orleans Saints franchise.
While he can totally learn from his family members, Manning is wise to look at who some of the top quarterbacks are in the game today. Lawrence is the best NFL Draft prospect since arguably Manning’s Uncle Peyton. Mahomes is already on a Hall-of-Fame trajectory, projected to have a bronze bust in Canton one day, likely in the same hallway as Manning’s two famous uncles.
Manning is a long way from joining this quintet of quarterbacks, but he knows how to pick ’em.
