Ron Rivera helped Washington defy the odds and make the playoffs in 2020, but they desperately need to add talent in Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Washington Football team managed to sneak into the playoffs last season, but that is not a proper reflection of the talent on Ron Rivera’s roster. This organization has a ton of holes to fill. They absolutely must nail the No. 19 overall pick in April’s draft to help give Rivera the talent he needs to succeed going forward.
It will be a major surprise if Marty Hurney and his staff don’t use their first round pick on a player to bolster their offense. In a perfect world, a new starting quarterback would fall into Washington’s lap in Round 1. The odds are stacked against that dream coming true for Rivera and his offensive coaching staff.
Instead, look for Washington to look closely add bolstering their wide receiver corps with a big-play threat or acquiring a tackle who can help give their quarterback more time to throw in 2021. The board lines up nicely for both position groups at No. 19. Fans in the nation’s capital should keep a close eye on the following five prospects.
5. Mac Jones
The chances are pretty slim that Jones will fall this far. If he does, Washington won’t waste any time anointing him as their quarterback of the present and future.
Jones lacks dynamic physical tools, but he makes up for those deficiencies with terrific accuracy as a passer. He’ll need Washington to surround him with quality weapons to succeed, but drafting him would begin to give this franchise an offensive identity to build around.
