The Los Angeles Chargers continue to make smart moves in free agency, as they sign former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Matt Feiler.
One thing is clear. The Los Angeles Chargers want to keep franchise quarterback Justin Herbert upright. They agreed in principle to sign former Green Bay Packers center Corey Linsley earlier in the day on Monday. Now, the Chargers are adding former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Matt Feiler into the mix as well.
Feiler has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal worth $21 million to join the Bolts. He spent the last five NFL seasons with the Steelers. Feiler has played in 46 games the last five years for the Steelers, making 40 starts with Pittsburgh. While this may not be a sexy signing for the Chargers, it really helps them field a better football team ahead of their first season under Brandon Staley.

Herbert was named 2020 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in his first season out of Oregon. The former No. 6 overall pick by the Chargers completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 4,336 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 15 games. He went 6-9 in those 15 starts. While he shined a year ago, he will have his second head coach in as many seasons with Staley switching L.A. teams.
With the additions of Linsley and now Feiler, the Chargers are doing everything in their power to get Herbert the protection he needs to succeed. Assuming good health, he has the chance to be his generation’s version of Philip Rivers or Dan Fouts in Chargers uniform. Maybe he can do what only Stan Humphries did with the Bolts, which is lead his California NFL team to the Super Bowl?
By signing Linsley and Feiler, the Chargers are not messing around when it comes to Herbert.
