J.J. Watt appears to love his new team’s decision to sign receiver A.J. Green in free agency.
The Arizona Cardinals are trying to make something special happen out in the desert. The team got a reset in 2019 by drafting Kyler Murray. Then came the addition of DeAndre Hopkins in 2020.
2021 has followed a similar track as J.J. Watt signed with the team after mercifully moving on from his time with the Houston Texans. Now former Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green is the latest to show up in Arizona looking to get the franchise back to the postseason for the first time since 2015.
Watt was quick to react to the news with a GIF that says it all.
J.J. Watt thrilled to be teammates with A.J. Green in Arizona
What a dramatic shift this is for Watt. The Texans were a true disaster and were actively getting worse because of mismanagement in the front office. He is now with a team actively trying to improve and chase a title. The Cardinals have also avoided the Texans’ strategy of nuking the relationship with the franchise quarterback.
The Green signing is not as exciting as it may have been, say, three or four years ago. He has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2017 and has dealt with plenty of injuries since then as well. But the same can be said about what. The Cardinals are just hoping these veterans can be special in 2021 while Murray is still on his rookie deal and additions like this can be made.
Watt is also just happy to be away from the dysfunctional Texans. He got out just in time and joined a team where the hype is real. Are the Cardinals now Super Bowl favorites? Not quite, but having hope is more than what can be said about what is going on in Houston.
