Chicago Bears quarterback Nick Foles could have one more stint in Philadelphia left in him before he calls it a career.
Mitchell Trubisky might not be the only Bears quarterback to find himself in a new uniform in 2021.
After Chicago signed Andy Dalton and reportedly did so under the guise he’d be the started, Nick Foles is rumored to be the next Bears quarterback to exit stage left. Foles threw 10 touchdown passes in nine appearances last season while starting over Mitchell Trubisky, but with all the talk of a new Bears quarterback in 2021 his name has been a complete afterthought.
A departure by Foles would signal a wholesale change in the Chicago quarterback room as Trubisky landed with the Bills this offseason to serve as Josh Allen’s backup. A backup role seems to be in store for Foles as well, one that would truly bring his football story full circle.
Eagles Rumors: Nick Foles a trade target to backup Jalen Hurts
Over in Philadelphia, the Eagles have been making quarterback changes of their own. Carson Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts and Jalen Hurts isn’t the de facto starter such a move would seemingly make him.
From talk of still drafting a quarterback in the Top 10 this year to a recent rumor about the Eagles being in on a Deshaun Watson trade, the quarterback situation in Philly is very much open for debate.
While nothing seems to be imminent, the Eagles sniffing around the quarterback market could lead them to reunite for a third time with Nick Foles. According to reports, Philly could trade for Foles and make him Hurts’ backup this season.
Foles having a third act in Philadelphia feels like the perfect epilogue to his storybook career with them. After beginning his career with the Eagles in 2012, he left in 2014 only to return three years later and lead Philly to a Super Bowl in 2018.
That’s the cliff notes version of a twisting story, but Foles once again returning to the Eagles to likely play out the remainder of his career mentoring Jalen Hurts feels like a capital-F Football Story.
More importantly, such a trade would seemingly settle the quarterback debate for the Eagles. Foles would be the No. 2 quarterback and the Eagles drafting and carrying a third — especially one in the Top 10 — would make almost no sense.
Bringing in Foles does make sense in more than one way, as it provides closure to the quarterback debate and closure to Foles’ incredibly storied history with the Eagles.
