Aaron Rodgers pays homage to Alex Trebek during his chance to host the hit game show.
Already a superstar on the field, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers just fits the narrative of a game show host. This week, he has the chance to audition for life outside of the NFL.
The three-time MVP, 37, will now be the host of Jeopardy! for his two-week run on the show starting this week. Multiple stars have filled in the role on the show following the passing of Alex Trebek.
Trebek tragically passed away after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80.
Rodgers was a contestant in 2015, winning Celebrity Jeopardy! In his well-awaited return, Rodgers paid respect to Trebek, hoping to make him proud during his time as host.
“I just wanted to really do right by his memory,” Rodgers said.
Could Aaron Rodgers be the next full-time host of ‘Jeopardy!’?
Rodgers called the chance to host the game show a “dream” since he was young. Now, he’ll be sitting in for the next 10 episodes, hopefully leaving a lasting impact for his future.
After winning the MVP in 2020, the question now turns to how long will Rodgers remain with the Packers. Green Bay elected to find his replacement with the selection of Jordan Love with their first-round pick in 2020. So far, he remains the backup on the depth chart.
Rodgers likely hopes to win another championship before calling it a career. The Packers will at least run it back with the long-term quarterback for one more season. Who knows after that if Rodgers would like to keep playing?
Trebek and Rodgers’ relationship is certainly a special one between host and contestant. Now, the student could replace the master as the next big name in TV game show history.
