Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes could not believe the unreal touchdown pass thrown by Villanova’s Daniel Smith during Saturday’s game against Delaware.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has pulled off some ridiculous touchdowns passes during his young NFL career. From underhanded touchdown throws to pulling off a pass as he was falling to the turf in Super Bowl 55 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mahomes is the king of crazy tosses. That was before the world was introduced to Villanova quarterback Daniel Smith.
During the fourth quarter Saturday’s CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) game against Delaware, Smith rolled outside to the right looking for a red zone touchdown. Smith, however, was tripped up by a Delaware defender, causing him to do a somersault. As Smith is in mid-flip, he manages to let off the throw and hits tight end Charlie Gilroy in the end zone for the score!
Mahomes, himself, was impressed with Smith’s improvised throw, calling it “crazy stuff.”
Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes impressed by Daniel Smith’s somersault touchdown
Trevor Lawrence could never (no disrespect whatsoever towards the next quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars). Did Smith’s chances of making the NFL just increase with this athletic throw? One has to wonder.
Despite the insane effort by Smith, the touchdown was not enough for the Wildcats, as they fell 27-20 to Delware. Overall, Smith completed 12-of-29 passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, via the NCAA’s official website.
Let the record show that if Mahomes calls a play crazy, then the individual responsible did something truly out of this world.
