To no one’s surprise, Patrick Mahomes is very excited about the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line after they traded for Orlando Brown Jr.
Entering the 2020 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs were hoping to repeat as Super Bowl champions. However, their offensive line simply wasn’t good enough to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their vaunted pass rush. Of course, it didn’t help that the Chiefs offensive line lost several members due to injuries. But still, Mahomes wanted better protection, and rightfully so.
After the Orlando Brown Jr. trade, the Chiefs superstar quarterback will be getting that protection. Brown has been a Pro Bowl offensive lineman at both right tackle and left tackle, so even though his experience on the left side is fairly minimal, he excelled after replacing the injured Ronnie Stanley.
The Brown trade, on paper, gives the Chiefs a very strong offensive line with versatile options. And Mahomes is pretty darn excited about it.
This offseason, the Chiefs have overhauled their offensive line. Not only have they added Brown, they also added New England Patriots left guard Joe Thuney into the mix, as well as center Austin Blythe. Additionally, they’ve added Kyle Long and they’ll be getting Laurent Duvernay-Tardif back.
Mahomes has every right to be ecstatic. His offensive line is deeper and better than it was last year. Heck, it might be even better than it was in 2019 when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. Not only do they have size and talent up and down their offensive line, they’ve got depth as well.
The Chiefs were already the favorites to come out of the AFC before the offseason started and they’ve cemented themselves as the favorites by revamping their offensive line. They’re in great shape to return to the Super Bowl for a third straight season.
