Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has said that there’s no exact timeframe for when the team will give defensive back Tyrann Mathieu an extension.
Throughout the offseason, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has been an incredibly busy man. Between trades, new contracts and preparing for the NFL Draft, it’s hard to imagine when he gets time to rest.
Well, one player hoping to hear from him sooner than later is star safety Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu is eyeing an extension from the team, as he wants to lock down a long-term deal. However, Veach has come out and said there’s no timetable for when the two sides will be able to get something done.
It’s completely up in the air when the Chiefs will give Tyrann Mathieu an extension
Mathieu has been a complete stud for head coach Andy Reid, as he played a monster role in the team winning the Super Bowl during the 2019 campaign. He’s going to want to get paid like one of the best safeties in the NFL.
“Tyrann is certainly a big piece of our team and what we do both now and moving forward,” Veach said Friday in a conference call. “I don’t know if there’s a timeline. Last year, we were able to get a lot of our guys done. They were all during the summer.”
Veach went on to say that his hope is for the him and Mathieu to sit down after the NFL Draft, either in the spring or sometime in the summer. Regardless, Veach knows that his playmaker is going to want a fresh new contract so that he can just go out and worry about making moves for the team’s stout defense. It’s on Veach to deliver for him.
