The Green Bay Packers jumped the gun drafting Jordan Love in the first round. After an MVP season from Aaron Rodgers, they should cash in while they can.
Let’s be real, Jordan Love isn’t the answer for the Green Bay Packers.
In the short term, GM Brian Gutekunst committed to Aaron Rodgers for 2021 with efforts to get a new contract in place.
“Aaron is our guy,” Gutekunst said during a press conference on Monday. “He’s going to be our quarterback for the foreseeable future.”
In the long term, it’s just hard to imagine Love being the guy. This isn’t like the situation with Rodgers and Brett Favre. Rodgers tumbled to No. 24, but he was still the second quarterback off the board. The Packers reached on Love, the fourth passer taken, when they got him at No. 26.
Rodgers was much more of a sure thing and worth developing as the heir apparent to Favre, even if it took longer than expected to get there. Love doesn’t move the needle in the same way.
It’s more likely another quarterback option will emerge before Rodgers departs than Love will come good.

So Gil Brant of NFL.com posed the question about Jordan Love.
And he may have answered the reason for it too.
But seriously, if the Packers are all-in on Rodgers, particularly for 2021, why not go after a target like Julio Jones?
Teams are reportedly lining up to inquire about trading for the wide receiver. The Falcons face cap pressure that could make that deal happen.
It’s not particularly likely, but nothing would show more commitment to Rodgers than dealing his backup for an All-Pro wide receiver. Or any help in the passing game, for that matter.
If the Packers really are all-in on winning a title in 2021, then Love does them more good as a trade asset than a backup.
