San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch could see Richard Sherman returning in 2021.
Even as the 2021 NFL Draft is going on, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch is not ruling out a Richard Sherman return entirely just yet.
Sherman has spent the last few years with the 49ers. His strong 2019 NFL season was enough to ensure him of eventual Canton enshrinement. One day, he could have a bronze bust in the same hallway as fellow Stanford alum Lynch. Though Sherman is on the wrong side of 30, Lynch and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan know how valuable he has been to their organization’s culture.
Will Sherman be re-upping with the 49ers in his free agency once the NFL Draft is completed?
San Francisco 49ers: Is a Richard Sherman return a possibility now?
At this juncture, Sherman has enough clout as a player to pick where he wants to go. Though he could potentially hang up the spikes this offseason, Sherman is more likely to sign on with a team later this summer. Teams that could be of interest to him include the 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys, the Las Vegas Raiders and his former employer in the Seattle Seahawks. All four run the Cover 3.
Ultimately, Sherman is only signing with a team that will put him in a great position to succeed. Whether that is staying put in San Francisco, going back to Seattle to play for Pete Carroll, linking up with Dan Quinn in Dallas or heading to Las Vegas to reunite with Gus Bradley, all four of these potential landing spots could be in play for him. We do know that he will have to wait to be signed.
Lynch and Shanahan leaving open the possibility of a Sherman return is good news for the 49ers.
