One New York Giants fan was not happy to see the Philadelphia Eagles trade in front of them to draft DeVonta Smith and punched a wall twice.
DeVonta Smith is the one that got away for the New York Giants.
The Heisman Trophy winner was the No. 1 target for Dave Gettleman and the Giants in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Just when it looked like they would be able to get the former Alabama star, the unthinkable happened.
There was a trade between NFC East rivals that saw the Philadelphia Eagles leap over the Giants in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to get the No. 10 pick. That pick was used to reunite Smith with former Alabama teammate, Jalen Hurts, to give him a No. 1 weapon with which to work in the hope he’ll maximize his growth potential.
After that, the Giants traded down to the No. 20 pick with the Chicago Bears who moved up to take Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.
Giants fan emotional over not drafting DeVonta Smith he punched a wall, twice
The Giants took Kadarius Toney with the No. 20 pick and added the Bears first round pick next year on top of a fifth-rounder and fourth-rounder to round out the trade compensation.
Gettleman never traded down in a draft before that move, but that trade is being widely praised, especially because of the additional No. 1 pick they have in their pocket for next year.
Toney isn’t Smith but the electric play-maker from Florida has great potential and is the perfect replacement for Golden Tate and should fit in nicely as a weapon for Daniel Jones.
But in the heat of the moment, one Giants fan was recorded not being all that pleased to see Smith slip through their fingers and end up with a division rival. In fact, this Giants fan punched a wall, not once, but twice, and then got scolded for his childish behavior.
Sports make people do a lot of things they regret and this fan undoubtedly regrets (or should) punching two holes in his wall that he’ll have to pay to repair solely because he couldn’t handle his emotions over the Giants not drafting Smith.
