Former Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher is joining the Indianapolis Colts in free agency.
After spending his entire professional career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Pro Bowl offensive tackle Eric Fisher has signed a one-year deal worth $9.4 million to play for the Indianapolis Colts.
Fisher was the No. 1 overall pick out of Central Michigan in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Chiefs. He made a pair of Pro Bowls in Kansas City uniform, helping the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl in 50 years back in 2019. Though he is only in his early 30s, Fisher is coming off the most significant injury of his NFL career, as he tore his Achilles tendon in the Chiefs’ playoff run back in January.
The Colts have signed Fisher to protect new quarterback Carson Wentz’s blind side in Indianapolis.

While Fisher can definitely still be a good player, the Colts grossly overpaid here for a guy who is still recovering from a massive sinew-related injury. Though advances in modern medicine have prevented Achilles tears from being career-ending injuries, will Fisher even be ready to start games for the 2021 Colts? When he is healthy, he is a great player, but this move is concerning.
As for the Colts, they are betting on Fisher having his health big time. They believe that with slightly improved quarterback play, they can win the AFC South and possibly sneak into the Super Bowl if every ball bounces their way. For a traditionally conservative football operation, it is a tad out of character for the Colts to pursue a veteran player coming off as devastating of an injury.
Then again, a team like the Colts must take a few home-run cuts to overtake the Chiefs in the AFC.
