Howie Roseman is not trading Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz this summer.
After an offseason full of trade rumors, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman swiftly brought to an end the idea of three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz being dealt this year.
The 2021 NFL season will be Ertz’s ninth season with the Eagles after having been a second-round pick out of Stanford during the 2013 NFL Draft. Ertz may have been a top-three tight end in the league at his apex, but he is coming off the worst year of his career. He still has three more years left on his contract. If Roseman is not onboard with trading him, then Ertz will have to stay.
Let’s hope that last season was the anomaly for Ertz and not a sign of what is to come from him.
Howie Roseman expects Zach Ertz to play for the 2021 Philadelphia Eagles
In his eight seasons with the team, Ertz has amassed 561 receptions for 6,078 yards and 36 touchdowns. He made three straight Pro Bowls from 2017 to 2019, helping the Eagles win their first Super Bowl in franchise history as well. However, he is coming off the worst year of his career with only 36 catches for 335 yards and a touchdown in 11 games, all of which were career-lows.
Though Philadelphia projects as one of the worst teams in the NFC this year, we all know that a tight end is a young quarterback’s best friend. With Jalen Hurts taking over for Carson Wentz full-time this year, maybe he and Ertz can develop a rapport similar to what the Eagles tight end had with his former starting quarterback? New head coach Nick Sirianni is hoping that will be the case.
Roseman being adamant that Ertz is not getting traded signifies things are back to good in Philly.
