After a training camp session, New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett actually told reporters to call him coach instead of by his first name.
Who knew Deion Sanders and Jason Garrett had so much in common? Earlier this year, Sanders made headlines after he got upset a reporter didn’t call him coach during an interview. Now, Garrett is out here trying to tell folks how to do their jobs?
Following a training camp session, the Giants offensive coordinator told members of the media to call him coach after they called him Jason. He’s got to be kidding here, right?
Jason Garrett telling reporters to call him coach is an absolute joke
As you can see in the video above, the reporters were incredibly kind to Garrett, saying it was nice to see him in person. Then, with a smirk on his face, he drops the coach line. Garrett is getting ripped for this on Twitter and rightfully so.
Journalists don’t need to look up to Garrett and call him coach. They are peers, Garrett is not their boss. What’s next, he wants them to start calling him Mr. Garrett? There’s no way in hell that would ever fly.
While the press of course needs to respect Garrett, this is simply taking things too far. Who knows if this is something that will continue, or if Garrett will back off things once he realizes how silly he looks.
Hey, should the Giants go on to average 35 points per game and win the NFC East this season, then maybe we might be okay with him going by coach. However, as things stand, Garrett has bigger things to worry about than what reporters call him. Give us a break, dude.
