The Seattle Seahawks could look to sign any of these former players in an attempt to appease starting quarterback Russell Wilson during training camp.
While the Seattle Seahawks are not swimming in cash right now, they could look to add a former player or two of theirs to make starting quarterback Russell Wilson happy.
In the first week of August, Seattle has roughly $5.78 million in available cap space to add a free agent, maybe two. This has them ranked 25th in terms of available capital for the 2021 NFL season to use on free agents the rest of the way. Since all four teams in the NFC West this year could make the playoffs, Seattle needs to do its best to ensure it is one of them that is getting in.

Golden Tate could make a Seattle return after nearly a decade-long absence
While the Seahawks have a strong receiving corps centered around D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, they could look to add a veteran receiver this late into the game, should someone on their training camp roster succumb to injury. Though he is firmly on the wrong side of 30 at 33-years-old, Golden Tate is readily available heading into what would be his 12th season out of Notre Dame.
Tate spent the last two seasons playing for the New York Giants. While he was not the same player he was during his NFL prime with the Detroit Lions, there is some hope he could be closer to what he was with the Seahawks fresh out of Notre Dame in terms of overall productivity. Though his days of being a 1,000-yard receiver are over, he is good enough to still play in the NFL.
While Tate only played two years with Wilson as his teammate in Seattle, they did win a Super Bowl together during that magical 2013 season. Though leaving for Detroit was a better financial decision for him, as well as a bigger role in the Lions offense than the one he had in Seattle, the Seahawks are one of a handful of teams who can win it all this year. Tate should be considered.
Overall, Tate has been away from Seattle for too long to come back in the twilight of his career.
