Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is already dealing with a groin injury this season.
We have not even played a regular-season game, and Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields is dealing with a groin injury.
Chicago traded up to No. 11 to select the former star quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes back in the spring. While Fields looked to be the real deal in his preseason debut vs. the Miami Dolphins last week, he was held out of practice Wednesday to nurse the injured groin. Though he did do some throwing on the side, he did not participate in any team drills during Bears training camp.
Naturally, Chicagoland is freaking out a little bit about the health of their new franchise savior.
Justin Fields held out of Chicago Bears practice Wednesday with a groin injury
While it is not a big deal to have Fields miss a practice in the preseason, he needs preseason games to get the reps to show Matt Nagy he should be the starter. Though he may be more talented than Andy Dalton and Nick Foles, he is not beating out Dalton for the starting job if this injury prevents him from seeing the field. Thankfully, for Bears fans, Nagy says the team is being super conservative with Fields by holding him out of practice on Wednesday and still plan to have him play on Saturday against the Bills.
This was not the only injury news for Bears rookies on Wednesday though.
Chicago’s second-round pick in offensive tackle Teven Jenkins underwent back surgery on Wednesday, which is crushing news for a Bears offensive line that was not all that great to begin with. Though the Bears signed future Pro Football Hall of Fame offensive tackle Jason Peters in the immediate aftermath of their first preseason game, Peters is approaching 40-years-old.
This news will be more concerning if he keeps Fields out of Saturday’s game vs. the Buffalo Bills.
