Tom Brady assured reporters ahead of the Buccaneers preseason game vs. the Titans that he wasn’t referring to Ryan Tannehill in his viral “The Shop” rant.
Who is “that mother******” that Tom Brady referred to during his appearance on HBO’s The Shop: Uninterrupted, complaining about an unknown team who lost interest in him during free agency?
It wasn’t Ryan Tannehill, according to Brady himself.
Ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, reporters asked the quarterback about the speculation that Tannehill was the target of his shade.
“I like Ryan a lot. I think he’s a great player. Obviously a great leader for the team and done a great job. Last year was phenomenal. Year before that was great,” Brady said. “I really like competing against him a lot, he’s beaten me quite a few times.”
Since he danced around the question, Brady was asked point-blank if Tannehill was the guy.
“No Ryan wasn’t. Ryan’s a great guy. I like Ryan,” Brady said.
Tom Brady says Ryan Tannehill wasn’t the target of his “that MFer” shade
It seems Brady wasn’t thinking about the fallout of his comments on The Shop. He tried to play off the entire discussion on Wednesday.
“I don’t know I was just talking,” he added at the end.
Brady’s comments won’t slow down the conversation around who he couldn’t believe one of his free agency options was sticking with. If it wasn’t Tannehill, it could have been Derek Carr of the Las Vegas Raiders or Jimmy Garrapolo of the San Francisco 49ers. It could have been someone else entirely. Some may not be convinced it wasn’t Tannehill after listening to those comments either. Liking someone doesn’t disqualify them from shade in the free agency game.
The Titans and Bucs are playing on Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium.
