Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub has grown incredibly frustrated with the play of Demarcus Robinson.
While the Kansas City Chiefs are entering the new campaign as favorites from the AFC to get back to the Super Bowl, that doesn’t mean life is all roses for them. On special teams, Dave Toub has just about had it with receiver/punt returner Demarcus Robinson.
While the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder is known for his wheels, he just hasn’t been showing Toub enough thus far this summer. Matter of fact, Toub didn’t hold back in letting folks know how the sixth-year player makes him feel.
Dave Toub wants to see more out of returner Demarcus Robinson before Week 1 arrives
“He drives me nuts,” a frustrated Toub said this week. “He’s got to learn to get up the field. He’s got a ways to go.”
From Toub’s latest comments, it tells you that Robinson isn’t getting the job done with his punt returning duties. He’s coming off a career-high season in which he posted 45 receptions for 466 yards. With that said, Toub is looking at Robinson to be a trustworthy option on special teams as well.
Thus far in camp and in the preseason, Robinson hasn’t answered the call for the veteran Chiefs assistant coach. While he’s still got plenty of time to turn things around, Robinson needs to wake up and fast, otherwise he’s going to continue to drive Toub’s blood pressure up.
Fortunately for the Chiefs, this team is stacked on both sides of the ball and they indeed look poised to go on another Super Bowl run. Robinson will play an important role offensively catching the ball from Patrick Mahomes, and he’ll also hope to get back on Toub’s good side by making strong plays with the special teams unit as well.
