The Los Angeles Rams desperately needed running back depth, and pulled the trigger on a trade for former New England Patriots bell-cow Sony Michel.
The Rams need backfield depth more than pretty much any NFL team, especially after Cam Akers went down with a right achilles injury before training camp. Now, with Darrell Henderson’s status also in doubt, Les Snead’s hand was forced.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams have acquired Sony Michel from the New England Patriots in exchange for two conditional draft picks.
The conditions on those picks are as follows, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport: “It’s a fifth rounder and sixth rounder this year that converts to a fourth rounder when/if the #Rams get a fourth-round comp pick. Complicated, but essentially Sony Michel for a fourth-round pick.”
Rams going all-in after acquiring Matthew Stafford
The Sean McVay-Stafford pairing means the Rams are all-in this coming season. Snead decided they couldn’t get things done with Jared Goff as their starting signal-caller, so they traded for another former No. 1 pick in Stafford.
Stafford, a Pro Bowl talent who was the all-time leading passer in Detroit Lions history, is hoping a change of scenery can bring with it winning ways in Hollywood.
Acquiring Michel, who was drafted four slots ahead of former Georgia teammate Nick Chubb, could go a long way in securing that fate.
