Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Sam Ehlinger pulled off an unreal pass during Friday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Indianapolis Colts fans got a good look at the backup quarterbacks Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger this preseason after starter Carson Wentz underwent foot surgery. In the final game of the preseason, Ehlinger made the highlight reel.
At the tail end of the first half against the Detroit Lions, Ehlinger was seemingly wrapped up by defensive lineman Kevin Strong for a surefire sack. That was not the case, as Ehlinger escaped the tackle and unleashed a beautiful dime pass to wideout Dezmon Patmon for a 60-yard gain.
Sam Ehlinger has best throw and play of the 2021 preseason
Sorry Trey Lance, but Ehlinger has you beat on the best pass of the preseason.
Ehlinger left with a knee injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Even though the Colts negotiated a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for Wentz and drafted Jacob Eason out of Washington last year, the team still decided to add a quarterback to the roster. With their sixth-round pick, Indianapolis selected Ehlinger out of Texas.
Through his four years with the Longhorns, Ehlinger completed 62.5-percent of his passes for 11,436 yards, 94 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. Additionally, the signal caller recorded 1,903 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns on 554 carries.
Even though there are indications that Wentz could be ready for the Colts’ Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, fans had to like waht they have seen from Ehlinger, especially in this game.
