Skip Bayless weighs in on three teams he believes would win more games with Cam Newton than with their current starter.
Nobody expected Cam Newton to be available at this point in the offseason, or really at all. The shocking move came Tuesday when New England released Newton.
This move could change some things for teams who originally thought they were set at quarterback.
Skip Bayless of FOX Sports chimed in on the move and gave three teams who he believes will win more games than they would with their current starter.
Skip Bayless thinks these teams make the most sense for Cam Newton
Skip’s three teams: the Washington Football Team, the Denver Broncos and the Houston Texans.
The Washington Football team named Ryan Fitzpatrick their week one starter this past Sunday after he spent the offseason dominating the team’s first-team reps.
This one is interesting, as Washington head coach Ron Rivera and Newton have history together after reaching a Super Bowl with the Panthers in 2016.
Would Rivera be willing to bring Newton in after the quarterback’s decision not to get vaccinated, especially since Rivera recently overcame cancer and was reportedly ‘beyond frustrated’ with the Football Team’s low vaccination rate a month ago?
The Denver Broncos, meanwhile, named Teddy Bridgewater their starter over incumbent starter Drew Lock. They were rumored to be inquiring about several high-caliber quarterbacks on the market in the offseason: Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson.
It appears, for now, they are satisfied with their starting guy in Bridgewater, and the fit there wouldn’t make sense for either side, as Newton may not win that position battle either.
The Houston Texans, however, should offer the most intrigue to Newton. With Deshaun Watson’s playing career up in the air, their current quarterback options include Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills — one of the weakest in the entire league.
Newton would have a chance to likely step right into a starting role with the Texans, who have already gotten used to mobile quarterbacks after having Watson.
Newton’s playing career is undoubtedly trending downward, but one of these teams could offer him a chance for one last hurrah.
