Clyde Edwards-Helaire says he’s ‘100 percent healthy’ for Week 1

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire claims he’s won his injury battle and is ‘100 percent healthy’ for a Week 1 start.

After a surprising Super Bowl loss, the Kansas City Chiefs are eager to bounce back and overtake the league — and no one is more ready than running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

The former LSU back has been dealing with an ankle injury all offseason, but Harold R. Kuntz of Fox4 News in Kansas City reports that Edwards-Helaire claims he is “100 percent healthy.”

Head coach Andy Reid indicated that the running back’s health had improved during a press conference earlier this week.

“They practiced this past week and did a nice job with it,” Reid said Monday. “I think we’ll be OK there.”

It’s good news for Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs fans and even fantasy football managers, as the elite Chiefs running back was projected as the 25th-overall pick in fantasy football this season.

The Chiefs will have Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Week 1 vs. Browns

Patrick Mahomes, who campaigned to bring in the running back after he won the National Championship with LSU’s undefeated 2019 team, has hinted that Edwards-Helaire will have an increased role in the passing game this season with Sammy Watkins now in Baltimore.

Edwards-Helaire played in 13 games last year, rushing on 181 attempts for 803 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, the pass-catching back caught 36 receptions for 297 yards and a touchdown.

With a healthy, multifaceted Edwards-Helaire in play, the Chiefs will have even more weapons at their disposal in their season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

The two-time AFC champion Chiefs are currently 6.5-point favorites.
