Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown makes headlines introducing the world to his fictional alma mater, “Boomin’ University.”
While most NFL players are seen reciting their name and alma mater in an uninterested tone, some have been known to have a little fun with the tradition.
In the 2021 season opener, that someone was Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who followed his name with a shoutout to “Boomin’ University.”
Brown’s hilarious stunt is already trending on Twitter, and the petition to change Brown’s actual alma mater, CMU, to “Boomin’ University” is officially here.
Though the university is fictional, Brown’s connection to the Boomin’ nickname has a history: he debuted a song with his company, Boomin Productions, on Instagram back in 2017.
It was just the beginning of Antonio Brown’s rap career as he shared a video arguing and battling with his alter ego, Ronald Ocean.

Since then, Brown has made headlines for years of troubled behavior in both his personal and professional life, including a recent fight during a joint practice. Connecting with Tom Brady during his one-game stint in New England turned out to be a lifeline for a receiver on the outs. Once he served an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, Brown was eligible to return to the league. Brady campaigned to add him to an already-stacked Bucs roster, and the rest is NFL history.
Dubbed an “unsung hero” of the Buccaneers championship run, Brown’s production is already booming as he posted 44 yards on two receptions in the first quarter alone. Last season, the wide receiver joined the Buccaneers in Week 9 during a brutal 3-38 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Since then, both Antonio Brown and the Buccaneers bounced back, and Brown topped off his first successful Super Bowl run with eight receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns. One of Brown’s touchdowns contributed to the 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in a fiery win from one of only six NFL Wild Card teams that have won the Lombardi.
The Buccaneers elected to resign Brown in April as they brought back all 22 starters in a historic offseason.
