Patrick Mahomes joked that he didn’t see Tyreek Hill as clearly as he’d like to on their 75-yard touchdown hookup.
Leave it to Patrick Mahomes to heave it downfield to a target that he barely saw.
The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2021 NFL season with a home comeback victory over the Cleveland Browns. One of the biggest highlights of the day was a 75-yard touchdown strike from Mahomes to his five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
On the play, the Super Bowl LIV MVP rolled out of the pocket to his right before throwing a bomb to Hill. But as Mahomes revealed after the game, it turns out this play was nearly based on good faith when hooking up with the wideout whose height is listed at 5-foot-10.
Patrick Mahomes trolling Tyreek Hill was everything we needed after Chiefs win
“I joked to Tyreek, ‘I saw this little hand pop up like this,” Mahomes said in the postgame press conference, while gesturing his left hand to imitate Hill. “I was like, ‘if I can just throw it far enough.’ I didn’t throw it far enough but he adjusted to make the catch and once he’s in space it’s a touchdown.”
After the big play the Chiefs next offensive possession resulted into a scoring drive. The drive was capped off with a go-ahead touchdown when Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce. The Chiefs sealed the game to notch yet another fourth-quarter comeback under Mahomes’ watch.
