New York Jets fans are already booing rookie quarterback Zach Wilson after starting out the regular season 0-2.
Buckle up, New York Jets fans. It’s going to be a long season.
After trading Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers in April, New York drafted QB Zach Wilson with the No. 2 pick later on in the month. Jets’ fans know how it feels to be let down, but with high hopes for Wilson entering the season, fans are already letting Wilson know that they’re disappointed with his performance two weeks into the NFL regular season.
New York Jets fans aren’t impressed with Zach Wilson’s first two NFL games
In Week 1, Wilson was put under a lot of pressure not only because it was his first professional game, but also because New York played against former QB Darnold. As a Jets fan, the taste of sweet victory would’ve involved Wilson marching into Charlotte and knocking off the Panthers, but that’s not exactly what happened.
Wilson completed 20-of-37 passes for 258 yards, the most by a Jets QB in the first game of the season since 2013, with two touchdowns and an interception. He was also sacked six times, so his debut was a fitting welcome to the NFL.
After being down 16-0, the Jets lost, 19-14. Not too bad for a rookie quarterback, but Week 2 was an absolute bust.
Wilson’s first two passes were interceptions and he added two more interceptions to push the final total to four. As if that isn’t bad enough, the Jets didn’t even score a touchdown as they lost to their AFC East foe, the New England Patriots, 25-6.
It’s only the end of Week 2, so the good news is that Zach has plenty of time to prove himself as a starter. But, it seems as if quarterbacks perform better when they’re not wearing green and white.
