Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen channeled his 2020 energy in a deafening 43-21 victory over the Washington Football Team.
Josh Allen may have taken home a 35-0 win over the Miami Dolphins last week, but it wasn’t until his Week 3 performance that the Buffalo Bills quarterback truly lived up to his full potential.
In a 43-point game that gave him 22 points over his opponent, Allen harnessed the energy that got him second place in MVP voting last year. Going 32-of-43 for 358 yards and four touchdowns, Allen spread the ball to seven different receivers to amass 146 more yards than his opponent.
It was a trademark performance as Allen bounces back to his former form in a definitive Orchard Park performance.
Josh Allen finally looks fantastic in Bills blowout
While Allen took home a monstrous win last week, it was less Allen’s greatness than it was Miami’s incompetence.
After losing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the first quarter, the Dolphins struggled against Allen and Buffalo’s run game. Allen barely completed half of his passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns, plus an interception — it wasn’t a good look after the team’s Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Unlike last season, the run game got nearly half of the offensive yards in this game, logging 143 yards and three touchdowns. However, running the clock out was critical in shutting out Miami, so that’s the reason the Bills relied heavily on their halfbacks.
But this Sunday was different, with Allen needing air yards to stay ahead of Washington, especially after two back-to-back scores on an unexpected WFT kick return. Allen finished the game with a 129.8 passer rating, a beautiful stat that encapsulates the greatness of his play. Already, Allen is on track to make Bills history alongside Jim Kelly — and he just might be the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Everything that makes Allen great — his mobility, his accuracy, his throw power — was on full display against the defenseless Washington team. With that, Allen is finally back to take the AFC and challenge Mahomes once again for the Super Bowl slot.
