Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was not at all impressed with Bears head coach Matt Nagy’s play calling.
Yesterday in an afternoon matchup of the Chicago Bears vs the Cleveland Browns, the Bears put on a historically poor display of offensive play calling. This left fans and players criticizing the offense and head coach Matt Nagy.
Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, who brutalized Nagy and Chicago enough throughout the 60 minutes, decided to continue his attack post game, condemning Nagy for his use of talented rookie quarterback Justin Fields. Garrett said stopping the Bears offense “came easily” and gave detail to why that was a surprise to the Browns defense.
Even the Browns are taking shots at Matt Nagy
Fields, a recent addition of the new age dual-threat quarterback, made his first start against the Cleveland Browns. As Garrett pointed out, they were expecting Fields’ mobility to be weaponized. One look around the landscape of the league and you would see why that is a reasonable expectation. More teams than ever are using dual-threat quarterbacks to take advantage of defenses. When you have a struggling offensive line and a young quarterback like the Bears do, it makes even more sense to do so.
That is exactly what the Bears didn’t do and Garrett and the Browns made them pay for it. Fields was sacked nine times for a loss of 67 yards and hit an additional six. Garrett, who voiced what many were thinking, recorded 4.5 of those sacks.
While it was a day to forget for Justin Fields, he is receiving more sympathy than blame. A young quarterback with immense talent is sure to have growing pains, but it doesn’t help if even opposing teams are saying his head coach isn’t putting him in the best position to succeed.
