The Cincinnati Bengals came out on top of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, and there were some strong statements following the game.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been dominant over the last decade in their rivalry with the Cincinnati Bengals, but that wasn’t the case this Sunday. Cincinnati shocked the Steelers 24-10 as quarterback Joe Burrow earned his first career road win. The Bengals outscored Pittsburgh through three quarters on their way to a 2-1 record.
Cincinnati receiver Tyler Boyd was the first player to open up the scoring against Pittsburgh with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Burrow late in the first quarter. After the game, Boyd shared his harsh thoughts on what he saw as an embarrassing Steelers surrender.
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd calls out Steelers for giving up
Those are fighting words from a receiver who lost his first nine career games against Pittsburgh.
At the same time, it’s hard to blame a player who is finally achieving success after years of playing for a losing team. It’s Boyd’s sixth year with Cincinnati, and this is the first season that the Bengals have had a winning record. It’s also only the second time that they’ve defeated Pittsburg since Boyd’s addition to the team.
So while his comments may seem severe, he had an impressive touchdown reception in one of the biggest wins of his career so far and was riding those emotions.
When this criticism makes it back to the Steelers, maybe they can use it as fuel to put some meaningful wins on the board and circle Nov. 28 on the calendar to come ready to fight until the final minutes in Cincinnati later this season.
