Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had a classy response to Tom Brady passing him on the all-time list.
If Brees’ record was going to fall to anyone, it might as well be Brady, whose status as the quarterback GOAT is unchallenged. Brees himself is a legend of the modern game — he’s the man who brought a Super Bowl to New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Brees is an analyst on NBC these days, where he calls Notre Dame games and is often featured on Sunday Night Football.
The 42-year-old Brees finished his NFL career with 80, 358 passing yards. While statistics are just that, being the undoubted No. 1 player at your position in the history of the game has to bring some level of cache with it.
Tom Brady returns to New England to make history
Brady making history at Gillette Stadium is fitting, even though he doesn’t call Foxborough home anymore. TB12 set all kinds of records with the Patriots, and won six Super Bowls.
Despite the boos early on, Brady’s return brings with it a walk down memory lane, and a reminder of all he accomplished in his 19 years there. At 44 years old, it’s tough to blame Brady or the Patriots for their amicable split. Very little shade has been thrown publicly, minus some untimely comments from Brady’s trainer and father.
Both sides have a tremendous amount of respect for one another, and always will.
