NFL insider suggests Urban Meyer firing could be imminent

Things are not looking good for Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has been in the press quite a bit lately, and the headlines aren’t flattering.

Most recently, Meyer was caught dancing with a young woman at a restaurant that certainly was not his wife. He apologized for that controversy, but one thing he can’t apologize away is Jacksonville’s 0-4 record.

Most fans blame Meyer entirely for a close loss to Cincinnati that would have snapped their losing streak if he had opted for a field goal instead of a passing play that failed miserably. Even if it wasn’t his fault, the head coach is looking at a winless season with the No. 1 draft pick at his disposal.

Unfortunately for Meyer, it doesn’t look like his downhill slide is evening out anytime soon. Rumors of his firing from the Jaguars have been circulating for weeks.

And according to NFL insider Michael Lombardi, Meyer’s exit may happen sooner than anyone expected.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer may be fired in coming days

A mid-season exit would be a heavy blow for Meyer. The former Ohio State coach could potentially be fired under a “morals clause” in his contract due to the video of him with the young woman, but that’s just a convenient excuse for Jacksonville to get rid of him after a disastrous start to the season.

Meyer may have a silver lining. If he is fired in the next few days or weeks, he might just be able to find a mid-season opportunity at the college level. After all, Notre Dame fans were already begging for Meyer following a loss to Cincinnati.

The Jaguars may be on the hunt for a new coach, and hopefully they have more success capturing one of those than they do catching victories.
