Odell Beckham Jr.’s first drive with the Los Angeles Rams didn’t go to plan as a miscommunication led to a bad interception for Matthew Stafford.
Monday Night Football officially welcomed Odell Beckham Jr. to the Rams. It just didn’t start out particularly well against the 49ers.
The first Rams drive of the game ended in an interception that Beckham Jr. was partially at fault for.
Matthew Stafford tried to go long to his newest receiver but OBJ appeared to stop short and the throw was easily picked off by a 49ers defender.

At least Beckham Jr. used the hit stick after the catch to prevent it from getting any worse.
OBJ and Stafford definitely need to work on their connection to avoid that kind of mishap again. The receiver should have kept going downfield, but Stafford never should have launched that pass. The outcome was always unlikely to be good even if Beckham Jr. had run through. It’ll take more than one play to decide whether signing OBJ was the right move.
Luck was not on LA’s side early against the 49ers. Stafford had another pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown to put the Rams down 14-0.
Beckham Jr. ended up with two catches for 18 yards on the first three drives for LA’s offense.
