Davante Adams is set to be the NFL’s top free agent and these five teams make the most sense as landing spots for the star receiver.
In the passing age that is the modern NFL, having a star No. 1 receiver can make all the difference for contending teams. Cooper Kupp just won the Super Bowl MVP for the Los Angeles Rams while Ja’Marr Chase was a star for the Cincinnati Bengals, which is good news for Davante Adams as he hits free agency this winter.
Adams posted monster numbers for the Green Bay Packers in 2021, catching 123 passes for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns, but the Packers’ salary cap situation could make the franchise tag a heavy lift.
There are also rumors about Adams wanting to follow Aaron Rodgers wherever he goes, which could limit the list of potential landing spots even more. With that in mind, let’s look at five NFL teams that make the most sense for Adams.
5. Top free-agent fits for Davante Adams – Jacksonville Jaguars
If Adams simply wants to get paid, there are few better options for him than the Jaguars, who enter the offseason with nearly $60 million in salary-cap room. Jacksonville could afford to give Adams a deal worth at least $30 million per year and still have room to upgrade the rest of their roster in order to contend in a weak AFC South.
Making a play for Adams also makes sense since Jacksonville needs to do a better job building infrastructure around second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Adding one of the NFL’s best wide receivers would certainly help unlock the potential for Lawrence to become one of this generation’s best quarterbacks.
The drawback here is that Lawrence’s presence would eliminate Jacksonville as a landing spot for Rodgers, which would likely take Adams out of play here if staying with the only quarterback he has ever known in the NFL is Adams’ priority. We’ll leave the Jaguars here in case Adams decides to simply chase the most money he can land.
