The Miami Dolphins could be one of the most active teams in NFL free agency this year with tons of cap space utilize. Who should they target?
After making an unexpected coaching change, the Dolphins are set to start fresh in 2022.
It helps that they have more cap space than most teams in the NFL coming into the free agency frenzy.
Mike McDaniel and his staff will have the opportunity to remake the roster exactly how they want it.
So which free agents should they go after?
5 targets for the Dolphins in 2022 NFL free agency
5. Jameis Winston
The Dolphins have a new head coach. Will they end up with a new quarterback as well?
McDaniel is an offense-minded coach so it’ll be critical for him to identify the player he wants to lead his offense. That might not be Tua Tagovailoa, even if Miami is acting like it is.
The argument for giving Tagovailoa a chance is strongest when you look at the free agent quarterback class for 2022. There aren’t a lot of great options out there.
The exception might be Jameis Winston, whose ceiling is still quite high. He just hasn’t had it all come together yet.
Pursuing Winston could make sense if the call is to move on from Tagovailoa.
If they do decide to move forward with Tagovailoa, for the time being, there are some intriguing quarterbacks who could be convinced to come in as a backup with the opportunity to take over. Marcus Mariota and Mitchell Trubisky stand out on that front.
