Last year, Smith-Schuster hit unrestricted free agency and received interest from multiple teams, including the Chiefs. Ultimately, he decided to stay in Pittsburgh on a one-year, $8 million contract.

While Smith-Schuster did return, his season was cut short. In Week 5, Smith-Schuster suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery, and forced him to miss the remainder of the regular-season. He did, however, return for Pittsburgh’s playoff game against Kansas City.

Smith-Schuster was selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Southern California. In his five years with the team, the wide receiver recorded 323 receptions for 3,855 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Pittsburgh did not just lose one wide receiver to free agency. James Washington, a second-round pick in 2018, signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

Whatever the case may be, Smith-Schuster is going to be catching passes from Mahomes, as the Chiefs look to return to the Super Bowl for the third time in four years.
