Colin Kaepernick ‘still hopeful’ for chance with Seahawks

After spending time with Tyler Lockett earlier this offseason, Colin Kaepernick worked out with another Seahawks wide receiver and hopes Seattle is looking.

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been on an NFL roster since the end of the 2016 season, his last with the San Francisco 49ers. Yet, we’ve seen the quarterback hold open workouts and continuously make no mistake about the fact that he still believes he could be a starter in the league.

And now, Kaepernick seemingly thinks that there’s a perfect opening for him to fill.

Though the Seattle Seahawks acquired young Drew Lock in the trade that sent franchise legend Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, the popular belief is that the organization remains in search of another competitor for the starting job under center.

So, after Kaepernick previously rubbed shoulders with Seattle wideout Tyler Lockett earlier this offseason, he and another Seahawks receiver, Aaron Fuller worked out on Wednesday. On the heels of that workout, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times asked Kaepernick if he’d gotten a call from Seattle.

While the quarterback said no, he seemed optimistic and, per his own words, hopeful that a call, workout and meeting could still happen.

Seahawks taking chance on Colin Kaepernick would make sense

The fit is clearly there. Lockett said earlier this offseason that he’d like to play with Kaepernick. And previously, Pete Carroll met with the quarterback prior to the 2017 season and has spoken highly of him since, even saying that he wished he’d have signed him then.

Kaepernick started 58 total games for the 49ers over his NFL career with a career record of 28-30. At the same time, though, the dynamic passer also helped lead San Francisco to a Super Bowl appearance and to an NFC Championship Game the following year in 2013.

Of course, Colin Kaepernick has garnered more attention for his decision to kneel during the national anthem and his activism during and since his playing days in a search for racial equality and an end to police brutality, specifically against minorities.

Given the history between the Seahawks and Kaepernick, it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this current connection given the team’s need and the quarterback’s clear desire to play there.
